okay, so after a swarm of questions many of which left me with my jaw on the floor... i realized something...
people are afraid of pushing a button to see what it does
okay, to backtrack first. i am self taught in photoshop, had no books had no tutorials, had a borrowed i think 7... dunno which was before cs2 when i started, i learned it by ....pressing a button and seeing what it does
i explored, i tried stuff out.
i had no teachers no schools no education on this stuff
i saw a button i pressed it.
that is how about 9 years ago when i first decided to try and apply digital coloring to early pages of ravine, i was dabbing paint on a page. i came to the point where i had to paint a waterfall. so , just for fun i tried putting scattering on the foam brush i made, a simple thing. and i was gonna see if smudge could be scattered. it had a weird side effect.

you probably noticed that in my work it is often hard to distinguish if im using a zbrush model or just painined it all in photoshop
reason for that is simple.
my realism rendering is greatly based on 3 d rendering processes.
by this i mean as i learned 3d i became aware of the stuff we usually visually take for granted.
qualities of material, importance of reflectivity, ambient occlusion, and subsurface scattering.
to any 3d  artist these are everyday terms, while 2d artists usually paint them without often even being aware of wheat they are really doing
for instance , a 3d artist will at any given point use 2 types of shadows. cast shadows from a direct lightsource, and ambient occlusion shadows which naturally appear  more intensively  the closer planes of an object are together.

Don't be afraid of experimenting! Use overlay and multiply layers over the one you're working on, with different colors to see how it affects the look of your coloring. Use even dodge and burn sometimes, with different ranges (Highlights, Midtones, Shadows etc), but don't overuse it and don't use it as a main tool of your shading. Rather to highlight some element (works well with metal parts) or to add contrast. Use photo filters. Use adjustment layers. Photoshop is a powerful tool! You can be surprised of the result you wouldn't think of on your own. Walkthrough videos (YouTube and VIMEO)'Till the end of last year, I had a YouTube channel that I had since 2005, where I posted all my videos (Walkthrougs, AMV's, StepMania steps and so on), but for copyright issues, it was taken down. So, as a protest, I created two new channels, a new one on YouTube an one on VIMEO.

Sorry for the lack of updates lately, I've been kind of busy with work for DAZ and planning out the commission. I'll try to think of a poll or something to add soon while I get this other stuff done.
For anyone using Genesis, Rob (DAZ's tech guy) gave a good tip today in the forums that I didn't know about. If you have a saved Genesis scene and then you buy more morphs for your Genesis, the saved scene will normally not detect the new morphs that were added after you saved the scene. You can apparently update your saved Genesis though by loading your saved Genesis scene, selecting the figure, and saving a DSF Character file (not the old character file type, the new DSF format one). Then just apply that same DSF to your figure and it will be updated with all of the morphs that a 'fresh' Genesis would contain. I haven't tested this yet, but here is the thread at DAZ if you have questions or need more information.

so here is a new one

its about exracting lineart from background layer, after you scanned/had your image flattened down.
on this one i actuall managed to fingure how note tool works so i am actually writing as im demonstrating things

finally as promised i made a video demonstration about painting a picture in photoshop.

i started from scratch, made a sketch in photoshop and from there started painting. for the overall image it took me 3 hrs so i was rushing a bit, so please exuse anatomiocal mistakes.

Also, i started off with only basic brushes, and i made advanced ones as the video progressed. that way i wanted to show you various purpose for different brushes and how to use them.
i didnt put any text in this demonstration, since this is just for viewing the process, but i plan on making shorter - more specific video tutorials later on. and hopefully maybe be able to post theme here on dA.

video is divided in 4 parts:

part 1: duration 10 min - sketching up, placing flat colors and working on the background, creating brushes.

part 2: duration 15 mn - placing flat colors on the character, painting the character. mostly the face, creating hair brush.

part 3: duration 11 min - continuing to paint the character, applying textures, finishing up

part 4: duration 15 min - finishing up the background, creating brushes for ground, trees etc.

i also posted a preview here on dA just so you can see what to expect

for the final image i decided to take my time and recompose it a bit, also i fixed few anatomical mistakes and redrew the winchester rifle by using reference.

As I'm a cheap A*se, I'm looking for a free program that would run on a PC. Would really appreciate any help.

hmm i use camtasia, but its not a free program, its a really good one though. i have everything i need in that program.

you can always download a free 30 days trial to see if it works for you. im sorry i cant be of much help.. i cant reccomend you anything else because im not fammiliar with any other program.
